Many (if not all) of these homes have been privately owned and re-sold for many years. They are generally located in a particular pocket of many suburbs and generally on good sized allotments. In the Western Suburbs they were commonly built in Williamstown (near rifle range estate), Newport, West Sunshine, Maidstone (between Ballarat Road and Mitchell Street) Braybrook (nearly entire suburb) and Deer Park.

They were as basic as a home could be with very little in the way of ornate features and mainly constructed of pre-cast concrete. The intended target was to cater for the influx of immigrants and low income earners.

Distinguishing features include:

  • White and brown trimmings
