As its name indicates, this style was developed from homes commonly built in the United States. Distinct from the previous eras this style purported a large, solid and robust feel. Many of the Californian Bungalows in the area are slightly larger than Victorian and Edwardian homes.
By this era, homes in the area were being built at a distance which made them a long walk to central Yarraville or Footscray. They are more common in West Footscray and generally accepted as the first era when off street parking was a common consideration when sub-dividing lots and building.
